How to Choose the Right Bed - and what to think about

So it's time to buy a new bed. Before setting your budget or only looking at what's on sale, it's important to keep in mind that your bed is so much more than just where you sleep. It is a heath device as much as it is a comfy place to rest. Having the right bed for you will maintain, and may even improve, health and your general wellbeing. From feeling refreshed when you wake instead of drowsy, and feeling fit rather than having a sore back because your mattress doesn't support you. You should research what's available and make a short list of what is best for you - then you can decide what offers the best value for money. Here are a few key qualities to consider when looking for a new bed for yourself, or your kids.

Comfort is important for a good, solid night's sleep:

If you're not comfortable, you wont sleep well, or will spend hours lying bug-eyed in bed waiting to nod off. All of this leads to less energy and a lack of focus & concentration the next day. When choosing a mattress, and a bed in general, take into consideration how you sleep (on your side, on your back etc) Do you move around in your sleep (if so you may wish for a wider bed so you don't keep waking up during the night). Do you sleep with a partner who seems to grab more real estate every time you move closer to the edge. Assess all of these things so you'll be as comfortable as you can. The more comfortable your, the better you'll sleep, and your health will only benefit from that

You need to have the correct mattress:

Mattresses are designed to support you throughout the night and if you cannot get comfortable, regardless of what position you lie in, then it’s not the right mattress for you. There are Soft, Medium & Hard mattresses. Make sure you get the right one. If you like a soft mattress, just be sure that it is still providing your body with the right support. Otherwise you could create spinal problems later in life. The way you feel in the morning is a good indicator of how your current mattress is serving you. If your back is sore, it may be that your mattress is too soft, and if you didn't get a solid sleep it could be that your mattress is too firm. You can find a ton of information on the internet for researching mattresses, as well as size & weight charts to help you identify the right mattress strength for you. And there's noting like dropping in to a bedding shop to test them out.

Size of the Bed:

When choosing a bed it’s important to remember the space you are buying for, as well as the age of the user. Kids, of course are still growing, so ensure that there's plenty of length for that. If you roll around a lot in your sleep but don't have the space for a double bed, you can always choose a wide single. These are up to 10cm wider than standard single beds so they may be just the ticket. Also to consider is the availability of manchester (i.e, sheets and doonas etc.). If you buy an odd size bed, or a custom made bed, you may not always be able to find the right size manchester to fit it. Either that, or it'll be very expensive. Standard size beds offer the best choice and lowest price levels for manchester.

Features & Options for everyday use:

Bed frames come as basic and standard, or with helpful features such as storage. Especially in kids' bedrooms, which are traditionally smaller than the main bedroom, having a bed with drawers or that flips up to reveal a storage area can be extremely helpful. Others are made high enough that you can buy trundle drawers to slide underneath them.
When it comes to user features, such as massage function, recliner functions etc, you'll need to spend a bit more, so you should only get them if you will need these features regularly. Recliner functions are excellent for people with mobility problems who find it difficult to get out of bed, or for those who love to read in bed before sleep. Massage is great for people with a bad back or circulation problems. But if you're not going to need or use these functions on a regular basis, it's really not worth shelling out the extra coin for them.
